Matt's Personal
Testimony
Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Matt grew up attending
church and parochial schools through the 12th grade. After high school he
attended Central Missouri State University where he received a B.S. in Business
Administration. While a student there, he met Donna Van Wormer, a dedicated
Christian, who attracted him to Jesus Christ. After graduation, he began a
career in management for J.C. Penney Company. He accepted Christ as Savior on
December 23, 1970. He and Donna were married February 13, 1971 and God has
blessed them with 5 children - Kevin, Valarie, Kari, Joy, and Chad.
He and Donna began working with teens almost
immediately following his salvation. He was called into full-time ministry a
year later at Tri-City Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri, where he served
faithfully for 32 years first as youth pastor, and then Associate Pastor.
Following the Lord's leading, in 2004, Matt and his family moved from their
ministry at Tri-City Baptist Church to join the staff at Northland Baptist
Bible College, where he currently serves in Administration, as the Chief
Development Officer.
Matt has been involved in Christian education, serving
as senior Administrator for 10 years at Tri-City, and then as Executive
Director for the Missouri Association of Christian Schools, and the Mid-America
Association of Christian Schools for the past 20 years. He initiated the
Student Leadership Conferences for the American Association of Christian
Schools and has been AACS director of the Student Leadership Conferences for
the past 10 years. He now serves as the Executive Director of the Wisconsin
Association of Christian Schools. In 1995, he received a M.M. degree from
Northland Baptist Bible College and in 2004, he received an honorary D.Div.,
also from Northland. Matt also taught as a part-time professor at Heart of
America Seminary in Kansas City for 8 years.
He has authored 2 books, "How To Be a Team Player and
Enjoy It - A Study in Staff Relationships" and just recently co-authored
"Biblical Leadership - Becoming a Different Kind of Leader". He has spoken at
numerous churches, Pastors Conferences, Leadership Conferences, and Christian
Educators Conferences around the United States.
