Why did God choose men to write the Bible and not do it Himself? -- Sarah

We believe that God DID WRITE THE BIBLE HIMSELF! The Bible says that "holy men of God spake [communicated God's words] as they were moved by the Holy Ghost." What was written down was exactly what God wanted! Nothing that is part of the canon of Scripture was something a man thought up in his own mind by himself. You can be confident that although men were used to write down the Scriptures, God was making sure those men put down EXACTLY WHAT HE WANTED! (see I Timothy 3:16 and II Peter 1:21)

Look at it this way. . .

Many times, carpenters need to pound in nails. What do they use to pound in nails?

Of course! A hammer.

Now, when the nails get pounded in, do we say that the work was done BY a hammer or WITH a hammer? That's right -- WITH the hammer!!! The work was done BY the carpenter. The carpenter was the one that did the planning and pounding, he simply used the hammer to accomplish his desire. The hammer was just a tool in the carpenter's hand to get the intended job done. The work would not and could not get done without the carpenter.

That is the way it was with the writing of Scripture. Man was simply a tool in the Master's hand to accomplish His desire. Yes, God could have written the Scriptures without man, but God chose to show just how great He really is by working through man to accomplish His will. The fact that God chose men shows His grace that allows fallen, sinful man to be used in such a tremendously good way.
